National Ash Management Advisory Board

Assembled by the UNC Charlotte Lee College of Engineering, and Chaired by Dr. John L. Daniels, P.E., Professor and Chair of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, the National Ash Management Advisory Board (NAMAB) consists of nationally and internationally recognized and published experts with practical experience working with and for the private sector, federal government and academia. The NAMAB provides independent input and advice to Duke Energy Coal Combustion Products (CCP) and Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) organizations, Duke Energy senior management and Duke Energy’s Board of Directors.

On April 5, 2016, NAMAB sent a letter to Mr. Tom Reeder, NC Department of Environmental Quality's Assistant Secretary for the Environment, expressing their consensus view of the proposed risk classifications. Download the letter here.

Has led numerical, laboratory and field projects for ash management, nationally recognized for reducing ash leach­ability, work cited in the Environmental Protection Agency’s proposed rule on Coal Combustion Residuals.

Dr. Krishna Reddy, P.E., Panelist, Groundwater Subcommittee; Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering, University of Illinois at Chicago

Over 30 years of experience with polluted site assessment and remediation, co-author of Geoenvironmental Engineering textbook, developed social sustainability evaluation matrix for remediation.

Dr. Jeffrey C. Evans, P.E., Panelist, Groundwater Subcommittee Chair; Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Bucknell University

Over 35 years of consulting, research, and teaching, nationally recognized for slurry walls for waste containment, co-author of Hazardous Waste Management textbook.

Dr. William E. Wolfe, P.E., Panelist, Closure Plan Subcommittee Chair; Professor Emeritus, Ohio State University

Over 40 years experience in consulting, research, and teaching. Nationally recognized for geotechnical engineering analysis, ash dam stability.
