Charlotte – January 31, 2018 – The Terracon Foundation recently awarded a university grant of $10,000 to the Department of Engineering Technology and Construction Management (ETCM) at UNC Charlotte. The funds will be used to support scholarships for female and underrepresented minority students in the Construction and Facilities Management master’s degree program.

Terracon, an employee-owned engineering consulting firm, established the Terracon Foundation to invest in the lives and communities in which its employees serve. The foundation has distributed nearly $1.5 million to national partners, communities and universities. University grants support graduate-level scholarships, fellowships and programs in the areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

Terracon employee Mike Phifer worked with the University in the application process for the grant. Phifer, a member of the ETCM Industrial Advisory Board and UNC Charlotte alumnus, has been a strong supporter of the Lee College of Engineering and a champion for its students.

“The impact the Lee College of Engineering has had on Terracon’s workforce is undeniable,” Phifer said. “The Charlotte office of Terracon is made up of numerous alumni and current students serving at all capacities throughout the various service lines. The workforce we see coming from the college is top-notch – a testament to the quality of the College of Engineering’s program. I am proud to support my university and to work for a company that allows our employees to invest in the future through programs like these.”
