Alumni Class Notes
1980s
Steve Morris, BSCE ’86, MSCE ’93, retired from ED&T in April 2016 after 26 years of forensic consulting. His work took him across the United States consulting on losses in Oregon, Montana, Massachusetts, Illinois, Kentucky, Indiana, West Virginia, Virginia, New York, Maryland, Maine, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Florida, Arkansas and Puerto Rico. He consulted in the World Trade Center losses, the Big Dig and numerous other projects.
Jeff Larson, BSCE ’88, is currently a Director for Perigon International, Inc. His son is a sophomore in the UNC Charlotte Mechanical Engineering program.
2000s
Amber Rath Stern, BSME ’03, was selected as a recipient for the 2018 ‘40 Under 40’ Leadership Award by the Charlotte Business Journal. Amber currently serves as the Senior Managing Consultant and Director of Biomechanics for ESi. After completing her undergraduate studies with UNC Charlotte, she received an MS in Mechanical Engineering from Virginia Tech and Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from the Wake Forest-Virginia Tech School of Biomedical Engineering. Since returning to Charlotte, Amber has remained dedicated to her alma mater and cited her College of Engineering volunteer and faculty positions as her greatest civic accomplishments in her ’40 Under 40’ profile. She serves as both an Adjunct Professor and Advisory Board Member for the Mechanical Engineering department, and has volunteered as a mentor and advisor for the University’s newly formed Mechanical Engineering Women’s Society and Candid Careers program.
2010s
Tim Nolan, BSET ’10, became engaged to Erica Clinard, BSME ’10. Tim currently serves as a Vice Chair for the Leadership Academy Alumni Board.
Justin Marsh, BSSE ’11, MBA ’14, concluded his time as Facilities Engineer at the South Pole Station and is now a Program Delivery Manager for Dewberry Engineering. In this role, he will support FEMA-declared disaster sites and travel wherever needed in the United States and its territories. Justin is an active member of the College of Engineering’s Alumni Council and Leadership Academy Alumni Board.
Amanda McIntyre, BSCM ’11, became engaged to Paul Petersen, BSET ’12, and also began a new position as Director of Risk Management Education for the YMCA of Greater Charlotte. Amanda is an active member of the College of Engineering’s Alumni Council, while Paul is a member of both the Alumni Council and Leadership Academy Alumni Board.
Jerry Zacharias, MSEE ’11, is working for Mueller Water Products as a Senior Firmware Engineer and is responsible for numerous manufacturing operational activities. He is an active member of the College of Engineering’s Alumni Council.
Nikki Curley, BSCE ’15, celebrated her one-year anniversary married to James Curley, BSCE ’15. Nikki has been instrumental in establishing the College of Engineering’s new Leadership Academy Alumni Board, and currently serves as Chair.
Jonathan Hazeley, BSME ’15, celebrated his one-year anniversary at Bank of America and recently purchased his first home in uptown Charlotte.
Jesse Curtis, BSME ’17, joined Leonard Automatics as design engineer, where he will focus on new product development.
Jennifer Grove, BSET ’18, is very excited to begin working at A.M. King design group, and will always be thankful to UNCC for getting her there!
Owen Hunt, BSME ’18, accepted a position as System Design Engineer at Black & Veatch in Cary, NC.
Breyhauna Johnson, BSET ’18, started a new job as a designer for Hazen and Sawyer in Raleigh, NC.
Ana Paula Llanos, BSET ’18, was accepted into Ingersoll Rand’s Accelerated Development Program.
Taylor McLeod, BSME ’18, began his dream job with NAVAIR this summer.
Casey Nichols, BSET ’18, will be starting the Applied Energy and Electromechanical Systems master’s program at UNC Charlotte.
Taye Ojo, MSCE ’18, will be starting his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering with a concentration in Structural Engineering at Virginia Tech.
Stephen Ruger, MSEM ’18, is working at Duke Energy in Charlotte as a Technology Analyst.
Alexa Spears, BSME ’18, was accepted into Ingersoll Rand’s Accelerated Development Program and will begin this summer. The rotational program lasts two and a half years, and she will be completing her first rotation in Annandale, NJ.
