Maxheim Faculty Fellowship

The Lee College of Engineering has awarded the 2020 John H. Maxheim Faculty Fellowship to Dr. Linquan Bai of the Systems Engineering and Engineering Management Department.

The Maxheim Fellowship recognizes and promotes the career development of tenure-track junior faculty in the Lee College of Engineering, assisting them with their development and growth as educators and scholars. The $5,000 grant associated with the fellowship is used to support and enhance the professional activities of the recipient.

An assistant professor, Dr. Bai joined UNC Charlotte in January of 2019. His research focuses on optimization and control of distributed energy resources, power system optimization and economics, electricity markets, and energy systems integration under the paradigm of smart grid with high renewable energy integration. He serves as a reviewer for more than 20 journals and conferences, including IEEE Transactions on Power Systems/Sustainable Energy/Smart Grid.

During his time at UNC Charlotte, Dr. Bai has actively collaborated with faculty members in SEEM and Electrical and Computer Engineering at UNC Charlotte, other universities, national labs and industry on NSF, DOE and industry projects and proposals. He has led two projects as PI, including one sponsored by Oak Ridge National Lab. In addition, he has collaborated with the National Renewable Energy Lab, Argonne National Lab, and Lawrence Livermore National Lab on several DOE proposals. He is also actively collaborating with companies including ABB, the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), Duke Energy and Dominion Energy.
