Albert Scholars 2020
The 2020 winners of the Albert Engineering Leadership Scholars Program for the Lee College of Engineering are Aiden Lamar of Durham, NC, Summer Prentice of Jacksonville, NC, and Abigail Rose of Greensboro, NC. Housed in the UNC Charlotte Honors College, the Albert Scholars Program is a merit-based scholarship program designed to develop future engineering leaders in The William States Lee College of Engineering. Albert Scholars are members of the University Honors Program and also, as merit scholars, receive specialized programming and advising in the Honors College.
Established in 2014 as a gift from Craig and Darla Albert, the Albert Scholars Programs is patterned after the UNC Charlotte’s prestigious Levine Scholars Program. The Albert Scholars Programs recruits top engineering students, and has an emphasis on applied learning, campus involvement and professional development. Craig Albert is a 1985 graduate of Mechanical Engineering at UNC Charlotte. He is currently the president and chief operating officer of Bechtel Group, Inc. His wife Darla is a 1983 alumna of UNC Charlotte’s Belk College of Business.

Career Goals: Computer hardware engineer or researcher
Campus Involvement: Honors College, wants to get involved in interest-based clubs.
Aiden plans to major in computer engineering, so he can build computer components or peripherals that could be used to help creators. He loves working on creative projects for fun or for academics, including writing songs, stories, making electronic music or video editing. He is passionate about computing, as well as creativity, and hopes to learn how to engage a variety of skills and ideas into an engineering career in the future. He is a part of the honors college, and is excited to work within the honors community, and also looks forward to living near the city of Charlotte.

Career Goals: I aspire to provide clean energy to all and work on developing new renewable energy sources.
Campus Involvement: I am a part of engineering-based clubs/organizations such as SWE and WE Engage. I also play alto saxophone in the Pride of Niner Nation Marching Band. I am a proud member of UNC Charlotte’s Honors College and volunteer at the Crisis Assistance Ministry. I enjoy creating music, painting, hiking, and skating around campus when I have free time.

Career Goals: To use civil engineering to help others, specifically the homeless, by creating spaces for them to live.
Campus Involvement: I am looking forward to getting involved in clubs like WE Engage and other organizations to mature as an engineer. I love to volunteer and cannot wait to continue this passion on campus and in the Charlotte community, specifically with the Jamil Niner student pantry. I am also an athlete and plan to play ultimate frisbee and other club sports on campus. I am looking forward to becoming a 49er and growing as a person and an engineer.
