Dr. Conrad Elected IEEE-USA President

The members of IEEE-USA, an organizational unit of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, have elected Dr. Jim Conrad of The William States Lee College of Engineering to serves as their president for 2020. Dr. Conrad, a professor in Electrical and Computer Engineering, will serve as president elect in 2019.

BigDEAL Energy Forecasting Competition Gathers International Interest

As part of their coursework, students in Energy Analytics have been competing very successfully in international energy forecasting competitions. This fall the course instructor decided the Lee College of Engineering would host a competition of its own, and 142 data scientists from 26 countries have formed 81 teams for the first ever UNC Charlotte BigDEAL Forecasting Competition 2018.

The Airport Engineering Onsite Seminar hosted by UNC Charlotte’s Civil and Environmental Engineering Department and Infrastructure, Design, Environment and Sustainability (IDEAS) Center was held Oct. 15-16 at the Carolinas Aviation Museum. The seminar featured presentations by industry, government and academic experts in airport design, construction, operation and maintenance.

NSF Funds Research for AI Systems to Improve Public Safety

Researchers at UNC Charlotte have been awarded funding from the National Science Foundation (NSF)’s Smart and Connected Communities program to co-develop technology to support public safety.
