Dr. Scott Smith Honored with Lifetime Service Award
Dr. Scott Smith, chair of Mechanical Engineering and Engineering Science at UNC Charlotte, was honored with the Lifetime Service Award by the North American Manufacturing Research Institution of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (NAMRI/SME), at the 46th annual North American Manufacturing Research Conference (NAMRC) held in College Station, Texas.
49er Engineers Take Part in UK Railway Challenge
Building and operating a 1/8-scale hydrogen-powered locomotive named the ‘Hydrogen Hero’, a team of engineering students from UNC Charlotte and the University of Birmingham, England, were the top student team and third-place team overall at the Institute of Mechanical Engineers Railway Challenge held in Leicestershire, England, in July.
Lawanson Named Young Clean Energy Innovator
Congratulations to Tumininu (Tumi) Lawanson, for being named a Young Clean Energy Innovator of the Year by the Interstate Renewable Energy Council (IREC) at its Intersolar North American ceremony on July 11, 2018 in San Francisco, California.
Engage ME Helping Multicultural Engineers Succeed
To support and encourage underrepresented minorities in the educational, professional and even social aspects of studying advanced engineering and technology, the Lee College of Engineering has a new program called Engage ME. The name stands for ‘Engage Multicultural Engineers,’ and the program brings together students, faculty, professionals and alumni of all races, cultures and genders.
