BigDEAL Energy Forecasting Competition Gathers International Interest
As part of their coursework, students in Energy Analytics have been competing very successfully in international energy forecasting competitions. This fall the course instructor decided the Lee College of Engineering would host a competition of its own, and 142 data scientists from 26 countries have formed 81 teams for the first ever UNC Charlotte BigDEAL Forecasting Competition 2018.

Ashton Watson Leading the Engineering for $2-billion Airport Project
As the lead engineer on a $2-billion airport improvement project, UNC Charlotte alumnus Ashton Watson is involved in all types of engineering, on all types of capital jobs, with all types of stakeholders. And he’s having a ball doing it.

Airport Engineering Onsite Seminar
The Airport Engineering Onsite Seminar hosted by UNC Charlotte’s Civil and Environmental Engineering Department and Infrastructure, Design, Environment and Sustainability (IDEAS) Center was held Oct. 15-16 at the Carolinas Aviation Museum. The seminar featured presentations by industry, government and academic experts in airport design, construction, operation and maintenance.

Engineering Alumni Honored for Achievements
Alumni from The Williams States Lee College of Engineering were recognized for their professional and community achievements by UNC Charlotte’s Young Alumni Chapter and Black Alumni Chapter on Oct. 12, 2018.

Homecoming Engineering Style

NSF Funds Research for AI Systems to Improve Public Safety
Researchers at UNC Charlotte have been awarded funding from the National Science Foundation (NSF)’s Smart and Connected Communities program to co-develop technology to support public safety. EPIC Wins Federal Grant to Research Electrical Vehicle Charging
The U.S. Department of Energy has awarded $942,000 to EPIC, UNC Charlotte’s energy engineering research center, to develop an innovative solution related to curbside charging of electric vehicles.
