- UNC Charlotte general Transfer Admission Requirements
- Transfer GPA, as determined by UNCC Undergraduate Admissions
- Engineering Majors Only: Completion of Calculus equivalent (MAT 271 at North Carolina community colleges) prior to admission.
Major-Specific GPA Requirements
Major | Minimum Transfer GPA |
Civil Engineering | 2.5 |
Computer Engineering | 2.5 |
Construction Management | 2.0 |
Electrical Engineering | 2.5 |
Engineering Technology |
2.0 |
Mechanical Engineering | 3.0 |
Systems Engineering | 2.5 |
Students currently enrolled at UNC Charlotte who are interested in changing their major to engineering, engineering technology or construction management may seek admission after completion of two semesters and must meet the major-specific GPA requirements above.
Application Process
Transfer students apply directly through UNC Charlotte Undergraduate Admissions.
High school seniors with dual enrollment or Early College credits apply as incoming freshmen.
Currently enrolled University College (UCOL) students should consult with their University College (UCOL) advisor about declaring a major in the Lee College of Engineering. Other majors may contact the department for Change of Major sessions and change of major information.

Engineering Technology and Construction Management Transfers |
Students may transfer into the Engineering programs at UNC Charlotte either with or without an Associate of Engineering (AE) or Associate of Science (AS) degree from a community or technical college. Students with an AE degree are awarded at least 60 semester hours of academic credit upon admission to UNC Charlotte. Transfers to Engineering Programs are advised separately and a personal program of study is prepared for each entering student. |
Students may transfer into the Engineering Technology and Construction Management programs at UNC Charlotte either with or without an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree from a community or technical college. Students with an AAS degree are awarded 64 semester hours of transfer credit. Their studies at UNC Charlotte are considered the second part of a “2+2” arrangement. Students without AAS degrees come in with differing sets of completed coursework, so each individual is advised separately and a personal program of study is prepared for each entering student. |
For more information on how your credits may transfer, please refer to the UNC Charlotte Transfer Credit Advisor or the Transfer Guides below. |
Associate in Engineering
The Uniform Articulation Agreement between the UNC Baccalaureate Engineering programs and the NC Community College system promotes educational advancement opportunities for students with Associate in Engineering degrees. For more information please read the Uniform Articulation Agreement for the Associate in Engineering program.
